What You Will Do

On this trip you will learn and experience how to survive and thrive in Arctic conditions and develop resilience, self-confidence, leadership and teamwork skills to the highest of standards. You will learn to build igloos and snow caves, plus manage husky dog teams; and if you are lucky, get to see the incredible northern lights!

When can we go?
Visits take place between October to March. If you are looking for something completely different – you can go in June when the snow melts and do our Gold Expedition!
Where will I sleep?
This trip comes with the unique experiences of building and sleeping in snow shelters you’ve built, such as a Quinzy or Igloo! You’ll also always have access to your traditional Suomi log cabins and high-class authentic Lapi hotel style accommodation units. There’s also a lovely sauna, restaurant and bar and outdoor cooking areas are present.
What temperature will it be?
On most expeditions it will be around -19°C to -27°C. You’ll soon learn how to manage your kit and energy to enjoy this amazing experience.
Is this a personal development course?
Combining the challenges of surviving in the sub-arctic environment with physically demanding activities creates a fantastic learning experience which can result in life-changing personal development. Opportunities include the chance to put yourself in the shoes of some of history’s great cold explorers, you will learn to be responsible for yourselves, your kit and one another as you learn how to thrive in a potentially harsh place. Each participant will be encouraged to reflect on their actions, reactions and ambitions. The group will be encouraged to discuss their findings and use the strengths of each person to create highly supportive and functional teams.
How can the expedition support classic curriculum-based learning?
The expedition enhances understanding and provides case-studies for a host of subjects including: human and physical geography, geology and the sciences, natural history, culture and politics.

Day 1 – Arrival & orientation, evening hike
Day 2 – Classroom learning and Winter Base Camp set up
Day 3 – Cold injuries lessons, snow shoeing and skiing lessons
Day 4 – Snow shelter construction and Arctic survival skills
Day 5 – Tundra ski trip and micro navigation wilderness skills training
Day 6 – Husky dog sledding, winter Olympics and evening celebration meal
Day 7 – Return travel home
